Imerys Austria – talc, the pearly white
I had the great pleasure to visit Imerys Talc Austria GmbH in the beautiful Styrian region Rabenwald. The mountain Rabenwaldkogel encompasses the largest excavation site of talc in Austria and Central Europe. What an amazing clash of colours and materiality! The intensive sun exposed the mineral’s shiny and bright shades, which competed with the dark green environment and the hard, metallic structures of technology.
The very soft mineral is an important component of a wide range of products that we use in our daily lives like paper, rubber, cosmetics, colours, pharmaceutics and many more. 100.000 tons a year are being excavated and processed in facilities close by.
Imerys’ site of 55 hectare and the astonishing landscape offered room for inspiration for future art-industry interventions. Stay tuned.
