How can we imagine our urban future(s) through a trans-disciplinary lens?

Julia Bentz, Kiat Ng, and Jelena Ristic Trajkovic organized the extensive transdisciplinary summer school “Urban Imaginary.” Multidiscplinary researchers and artists, and students from all over Europe and abroad tackled the quest for alternative urban futures. The week-long event of the EU COST Action SHiFT (Social Sciences and Humanities for Transformation and Climate Reslience) took place in Lisbon, Portugal from July 3rd to July 7th, 2023 and aimed to provide participants with theoretical and practical knowledge on transdisciplinarity, transformation and regeneration in urban spaces. Arts-based and experiential learning practices fused with theoretical knowledge.

Dominika Glogowski was invited to share her expertise on the practice of deep listening from an arts’ perspective. In collaboration with marine biologist Andreia Sousa, the team designed a parcour that explored our capacities of listening in the realms of a noisy, hectic and touristic Lisbon. The sounds of the river clash with the sounds of cars, boats, flights, and masses of people. What voice does sound have in the future, and what is its rhythm?
