what is the architect doing in the jungle? biornametics.

the book presentation to biornametics took place at the university of applied arts vienna, march 18, 2013.
biornametics is a design-based research program, conducted by barbara imhof and petra gruber. generated from the words ‘biomimetics’ and ‘ornament,’ biornametics charts the potentials in collaborative processes. examining natural patterns, the project embraces nature and aesthetics as the new role-model for architectural creation.

I was happy to contribute to the book and host the panel discussion with the guests julian vincent, pioneer in biomimetics and co-founder of biomimetics at the universities of bath and reading, UK and reiner zettl, art historian at the architecture department of the university of applied arts vienna, A

biornametics was awarded funding for the follow-up project GrAB. GrAB will explore the question of growth and commence in june this year. let’s stay tuned!
