Deep Earth Synergies: launching the arts hub in UK

Dominika (artEC/Oindustry) and artist Dana Finch have successfully launched the cross-sectoral arts hub Deep Earth Synergies in Cornwall, UK in early 2021.

Deep Earth Synergies is an arts hub dedicated to foster alliances throughout sectors to tackle old problems around mining through art approaches. The aim is to generate new relations with the earth, people and technology and to raise awareness for the interconnectivity of all. Stimulating co-creation and knowledge transfer, yet also empowering self-agency in finding creative solutions in the world of complexities, the projects will bring the arts to forefront of the mine.  Deep Earth Synergies will thus experiment with ways to put the human essence in the focus of innovation and transformation that encompass pressuring topics such as SLO (Social Licence to Operate) and ESG (Environmental, Society and Governance) that are evolving quickly in the mining sector. The hub will thus introduce novel artists-in-mining residencies, workshops, talks and many more.

The first, very exciting project of Deep Earth Synergies hence is dedicated to an artists-in-mining residency in collaboration with the young company Cornish Lithium. After a tough selection process among an amazing pool of artists, who applied for an open call in spring, the hub decided to go along with Alexander Augustus. Alexander will be challenged to co-create an art work during his stay at Cornish Lithium in summer 2021 that includes the human aspects within green technologies.
